Creations - Hand Stitchery: Embroidery and Redwork

We carry a wide range of needlework projects in our store - from folk art embroidery to redwork to rughooking. On this page we feature a few of our simple hand embroidery designs as well as a couple of quilt patterns that showcase embroidery designs. Twelve Days of Christmas Tea Towels
The Twelve Days of Christmas Tea Towels stitchery pattern ($8.98), includes 12 numbered designs. These classic designs will go with any holiday decor. Follow their lead and embellish the towels with fabrics that coordinate with your holiday decorations.

You can see some of the design details more clearly in the photo below which shows the designs that Maisie stitched for days 1, 4, and 9.

The Welcome Christmas stitchery pattern ($8.98), is a fun 14" x 19" reminder of traditional Christmas activities.

4th of July Stitchery
The 4th of July stitchery pattern ($8.98), is a delightful 14" x 19" tribute to the fun traditions of July 4th.

The Sweetest Miracle pattern by Nutmeg Hare
The Sweetest Miracle pattern ($11.98) by Nutmeg Hare is a 14" x 31" wool applique and embroidery runner featuring the Nativity. We loved the words, so we've included closeup photos of the words on each side. If you aren't a wool lover, don't worry, we think it would be a great fused applique project for any fabric.

A Gentle Life pattern by Threads that Bind

The A Gentle Life pattern ($8.98) by Threads that Bind is a 7" x 32" embroidery with wool applique. It features a woman and her sheep and the bible verse "She seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands" from Proverbs 31:13 .

This pattern can be made with fabrics other than wool, so we've included it here.

Our Promise pattern by Threads that Bind

The Our Promise pattern ($8.98) by Threads that Bind is a 7" x 32" embroidery with wool applique. The wool applique flag is embroidered with the words "I Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America".

We've included this wool pattern here because it lends itself beautifully to other fabrics as well.

Crazy for Wool Summer pattern
Although this pattern includes the word "wool" in the name, the designer mentions that it can be done in fabrics other than wool...
Creative Stitching book by Sue Spargo The Crazy for Wool Summer pattern ($ 19.98) includes the pattern for the wool applique as well as a unique sewing aid - Crazy Stitches - which are the embroidery designs preprinted on water soluble paper.

Just place the Crazy Stitches stitch guide over the seam you'll be stitching on and hand stitch the design. When you are finished, you'll just wet the project to remove the water soluble paper guides. Crazy Stitches ensures perfect, even stitches on every seam.

Creative Stitching book

The Creative Stitching book ($32.00) by Sue Spargo showcase her 50 favorite stiches. The wonderful stitches are shown with very clear pictures and directions, so it will be easy to follow. This book is a must have if you are a Sue Spargo fan. Although Sue is known for her wool work, we think the stitches in this book can be used with any fabric.

Embroidery and Crazy Quilt Stitch Tool
The Embroidery and Crazy Quilt Stitch Tool ($22.95), by Judith Baker Montano, is a great reference book for stitches with tips on needles and lots of illustrations. It has a convenient spiral binding and even stands up for easy use. It has 180+ stitches and includes illustrations for left handed stitchers as well.

Doodle Stitching
The Doodle Stitching book ($14.95), by Aimee Ray, has fresh fun embroidery designs for beginners. The spiral binding makes it convenient to keep open to the desired page while you are stitching. Summer's lazy days are a great time to pick up some hand needlework and these playful designs would make a fun project.

Sublime Stitching
The Sublime Stitching book ($19.95), by Jenny Hart (from Austin!), has simple instructions and embroidery projects with hundreds of original small iron on patterns. This is her first book - but don't miss her second book just below.

Embroidered Effects
The Embroidered Effects book ($24.95), is Austinite Jenny Hart's second book and has modern embroidery designs with more than 35 basic and advanced stitch techniques. This book includes 30+ reusable iron on transfers.

Star for Ole St. Nick stitchery pattern
The Star for Ole St. Nick pattern ($8.98) is a great stitchery project from Reets' Rags to Stitches. The pattern includes instructions for a 20" 3-D Santa as well as for a stitchery design that can be placed into a pillow or framed.

Vintage Trick or Treat Halloween Stitchery Quilt pattern

The Vintage Trick or Treat halloween stitchery pattern ($25.00) by Crab-apple Hill includes 7 halloween stitchery patterns as well as directions to complete this adorable quilt. Maisie stitched up a sample of the center block for us, which is shown below. The other 6 images include whimsical halloween pails and lanterns as well as the Halloween banner at the top. It is hard to tell from the picture, but the quilt has black rick-rack around the inner border and black ball fringe at the outside edge.

Here's an embroidery pattern that is sure to appeal to our many Texas-loving customers whether you live here or have been transplanted to some far-away place. Each block in the quilt features an embroidered outline of Texas along with one of the many symbols of the Lone Star State (bluebonnets, armadillos, longhorns, boots, hats, etc.)
